Grove Field Hangar Expansion

07/20/2009

If you’ve wondered what development is happening at the airport, it is more airplane hangars. Immelman Hangar Development has begun the process of clearing a portion of land for 17 new hangars on airport property located southeast of the existing hangars. After the tree and brush clearing, grading and site preparation, the next phase of construction will begin in the fall with a substantial portion completed before year end. It is no secret that other small airports in the region have closed down in recent years and these new hangars will better meet the needs of pilots and aviation enthusiasts who are choosing to locate at Grove Field. It is a lesser known fact that Grove Field has been identified by the State, the County, and the Federal Aviation Administration as an essential public facility, not only for disaster response, LifeFlight and emergency operations; it is an important source of instructional opportunities for private pilots, who often proceed to commercial pilot training and ultimately jobs with the commercial airlines. Here are a few photos showing the first pictures of the ground clearing taking place.

Shoes for School

Shoes for School

As the long days of summer quickly pass by us, one thought on minds of parents in our community will be the dreaded back to school shopping days, and for some local families this just will not be an option. The Port of Camas/Washougal in conjunction with local charity Inter-Faith Treasure House want to help out!
SHOES FOR SCHOOL, will kick off this week in the Ports office located at 24 South A Street with drop boxes for community members willing to “give back” this school year. If you wish to make a donation of NEW unwrapped shoes for school aged children, PLEASE do! There will also be a donation jar for “shoe purchases” located in the Port office. Donation hours are Monday 9am to 5pm, and Tues-Fri 8am to 5pm.
The Treasure House has told me that they are in need of all various styles and sizes, this means there are no right or wrong choices when picking your perfect pair! The deadline for you to turn in your donation of new shoes is Thursday August 27th. After that, we will be taking them over to the Treasure House on August 28th and they are going to hand the school supplies and shoes to local kids and families on Saturday August 29th. For more information or questions about other donatable items for the Treasure House, please call Jennifer at The Port of Camas/Washougal 360-835-2196 x 103

Small World

07/13/2009

On Sunday KPTV announced “Thunderstorms Delay Space Shuttle Launch Again.”  Also, the Port had to cancel Sunday’s free riverside concert due to predicted thunderstorms.  (Wet grass, sound system electricity, and human beings do not mix well!)  We are in good company; we’ve also had to reschedule twice due to weather.  It is truly a small world, isn’t it?

July 12 Concert Postponed

07/13/2009

Torrential rain. At least that’s what is seemed like on Sunday, July 12. No sense in holding an outdoor concert on the only day with solid rain in weeks–ironically sandwiched in between two weeks of hot, sunny weather. Our next outdoor concert date is August 9 – so pray for SUN!

Chinook Memorial Ceremony: Sept. 12

07/10/2009

Mark your calendars for the date of the Chinook Memorial event. Join us for an opportunity to recognize the history of the area, specifically the Chinook Indians who lived here. At the Parkers Landing Historical site there is a new memorial that visitors can see with the names of Indian Chiefs inscribed in the rock. A few pictures are below.

Outdoor Concert July 12: Rain or Shine

07/10/2009

Northwest weather is unpredictable. What is certain is that the outdoor concert planned for Sunday, July 12 will happen as planned, rain or shine. Since the June 21 concert was rained out and postponed until August 9, some people may wonder if this concert will suffer the same fate should the weather turn to rain–and the short answer is: the show must go on!

You are all welcome to join us beginning at 2 p.m. with Opening Act: Southern Cross. This band will be followed by local favorite Carrie Cunningham and the Six-Shooters at 4 p.m.

The Marina Park will host a Beer & Wine Garden, food and refreshments and families are encouraged to bring picnic blankets or low-back chairs. See you here!
