If you’ve wondered what development is happening at the airport, it is more airplane hangars. Immelman Hangar Development has begun the process of clearing a portion of land for 17 new hangars on airport property located southeast of the existing hangars. After the tree and brush clearing, grading and site preparation, the next phase of construction will begin in the fall with a substantial portion completed before year end. It is no secret that other small airports in the region have closed down in recent years and these new hangars will better meet the needs of pilots and aviation enthusiasts who are choosing to locate at Grove Field. It is a lesser known fact that Grove Field has been identified by the State, the County, and the Federal Aviation Administration as an essential public facility, not only for disaster response, LifeFlight and emergency operations; it is an important source of instructional opportunities for private pilots, who often proceed to commercial pilot training and ultimately jobs with the commercial airlines. Here are a few photos showing the first pictures of the ground clearing taking place.
